CHARLES HINCKFUSS, MCM HOUSE
MCM House needs little introduction. This popular Sydney-based brand is well established in Australia as a go-to for chic linen lounges, natural materials, clean lines and tasteful simplicity.
Founded in 2005 by designer and creative Charles Hinckfuss, the MCM House vision was one of accessible luxury ~ to bring well-designed furniture and homewares to the market at an affordable price, making beautiful interiors more accessible to the masses. Having recently opened their new showroom at Habitat, we caught up with Charles for a chat…
We’re honoured you chose Habitat for your new Byron showroom. What attracted you here?
Love the design of the new Easy Street extension and Habitat seems to have the perfect mix for our brand to be on show in Byron Bay.
What was your path into furniture design?
I've always been buying and selling cool objects, and at one time I had to work out how to make a living out of it.
What is great design to you?
Stimulation of the senses.
MCM House has become a household name in the contemporary interiors space, what do you attribute the brand’s huge success to?
Luxury affordability

Natural elements in a relaxed, sophisticated interior.

Coming out of the water.

I love hand written notes.
Best bit of business advice you’ve ever been given?
Pay your bills.
Tell us about one or two favourite pieces in the Byron Showroom right now.
The Peach Barni and the Malt Mandi – both show a direction in colour that I think has a lot more visual sensation for the modern organic interior.

Can't say just yet ;)
Where can we find you when you’re not busy running MCM House?
In the sun.
If you could brainstorm or collaborate with anyone, alive or from the past, who would it be?
Dan Flavin and Donald Judd – these two guys epitomise the mixture of modern, simplistic, timeless design that I think the world is heading for and a place that I love to look at.
What have you got coming up between now and the end of the year?
Too much!
