  • Habitat Byron Bay 9/5 Easy Street Byron Bay, NSW, 2481 Australia (map)

EXPLORING THE PIVOTAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN MAKERS + MORNING RITUALS

Save the date! Morning Musings: 1000 Clay Cups, curated by The Outliers, will be popping up on Easy Street from 13 - 20 April. 50 artists from around the world have participated, each completing 20 unique cups/mugs that are available for purchase.

Join us for Opening Night from 5pm on 13 April for drinks, nibbles, and a special surprise!

The exhibition concept is one I've had rattling around my brain for years, inspired partly by 1000 vases, and my own handmade eclectic mug draw, that even at 5am, I open, pause and consider the vessel which will house my most important liquid of the day, my first coffee.

I've always been fascinated with people's routines - I have always loved reading "24 hours with..." to try and gain insight into what makes people tick, what gets them up in the morning, what motives them, what's their 'ikigai'? Nicole, The Outliers

Each artist has written their own "Morning Musing" - all wildly different and individual, but collectively setting their intention for the day, generally with hands wrapped around a handmade vessel, be it theirs or another maker. It's a little insight into the world our wonderful makers - a little bit of ikigai - their reason for being and what inspires them to make.

Each artist "Morning Musing" accompanies the cup/mug upon purchase and also is published online.

Cups/mugs are available to purchase opening night and throughout the exhibition, and online from 9am 14 April.

ABOUT THE OUTLIERS + OWNER NICOLE STEELE

Nicole Steele has been working and connecting with artists and makers for over 15 years.

Armed with a Bachelor of Design, her twenty-year career as a graphic designer saw her work applied to many a product within the multi-national food sector. Facing burn-out, she applied her honed eye to ceramics; crafting and working with a team to produce a range that is still popular to this day.

A co-creator and founder of Nikau Store in Byron Bay, Nicole created a curated space of approachable ceramic collections from around the world - bridging the gap between artist and collector, no matter the budget.

The Outliers sees an expansion of this vision – alternate perspectives, pursuing crazy ideas, and ultimately, curating exhibitions that make your jaw drop. Art is for everyone, but in no way is it confined to four gallery walls anymore. It's time to get a bit weird!
