BYRON ZERO HOMELESS DAY WRAP UP

Coinciding with World Homeless Day on 10 October, over half of the businesses at Habitat kicked off this community effort to end homelessness by donating 10% of sales to the cause, and Habitat management donated all retail rents from the day.

Along with a couple more places in town, we ended up raising $5,042 for the Byron Zero Homeless Project!

All money raised goes toward placing tiny homes around the Byron shire, so people have a safe place to sleep. The long-term goal being that every business in Byron Bay will join in and we can end homelessness sooner than later.

Why Byron? Well, while it’s famous for being a caring community, Byron also has the highest percentage of people sleeping rough in regional NSW. It’s a growing issue that can seem too large to fix, but there are solutions and BZHD means we’re one step closer.

“It feels like this has been a successful start to a much-needed campaign,” Cr Spooner told The Echo newspaper. “Many thanks to those who have contributed so far and hopefully next year it will be much bigger across the entire town.”

Cheers to Prae Store, O’Meara Dental, Nice Martin, Lovin’ Life Co, Annukka, Shackpalace Rituals, Aestheticá, Tigmi Trading and Barrio for their support.
